The COVID-19 pandemic lead to an increase in the production of disposable face masks, causing a increasing in the quantity of medical wastes. The numbers are impressive: according to a study carried on by the magazine Environmental Science and Technology, 194 billion of disposable masks and gloves are used every month all over the world. Surgical Masks are not made of paper, but of polypropylene, a material which belongs to the range of thermoplastic materials. If not properly disposed, this huge amount of wastes can considerably get the ocean trash crisis worsen.
